Final Fight Retrospective
Final Fight released in November 1991 in North America. It was another game that my brothers and I rented. My, my oldest brother mostly chose these games because he was into fighting and racing, still till this day. Since I was about 7 when I first played it, they pushed me to the side and made me watch until they were done.
The Mayor of Metro City
Final Fight is a beat ’em up game and its about a mayor in this very violent city, ran by thugs. But he’s not your typical mayor. He’s this strong bodybuilder that takes no crap and beats the living snot out of everybody he comes across. A violent gang kidnapped his daughter and now he’s out for blood. They messed with the wrong guy.
The Street Fighter Connections
You come across some very interesting characters, some that you meet in Street Fighter. For example Hugo the big, Andre the Giant, ugly-looking guy goes by the name of Andore Jr. here. And Sodom the samurai guy but in this game he goes by Katana. I didn’t catch it at the time because I played it when I was very young. Then when I saw them in Street Fighter I didn’t make the connection since so many years had passed I couldn’t remember those characters.
Now as an adult I revisited the game and sure enough, I recognized them even though I didn’t get very far to see if anyone else made their debut.
the 90s fighting Vibe
This is a game that makes me curious about the storyline. I think it is up to part three. I don’t know how many times this guy is gonna go out and beat the crap out of the whole city. He’s literally fighting the whole town because everybody’s a thug.
But it’s interesting because it’s so 90s: the way that the characters dressed, the way that they looked and the environment. There was so many fighting games and movies at that time such as Double Impact, Hard to Kill, Out for Justice, Lionheart and Universal Soldier.
The actors we grew up with Chuck Norris, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone and Jean-Claude Van Damme were in all of the movies.
In those years it was just something that us boys were into growing up.
Final Thoughts and Memories
I don’t remember how far we got in that game. But recently as an adult, I got as far as the Katana in the in the boxing ring. I would definitely like to give it another try since I sucked so bad. Maybe I’ll use cheat codes or something.
