Revisiting Super Mario Bros: I Finally Beat Bowser

Super Mario Bros Nostalgia: Beating Bowser After 30 Years

Some of you were probably very young when Super Mario Bros first came out. If you’re anything like me, you might have been just a toddler — sitting beside your siblings, watching them run through the different worlds, finding secret paths to skip straight to World 8.

It’s 1989, and I’m four years old, trying to beat Bowser for the first time. Back then, it felt impossible. Timing those jumps, dodging fireballs — it was pure chaos for a little kid.

Fast forward to today — as an adult (and now a dad), I finally avenged my childhood self. I beat Super Mario Bros

Sharing the Challenge With My Kids

Now that I’m a parent, I wanted to see how my kids would handle it. At 5 and 6 years old, they gave it their all, and just like me back then, they found it tough. There’s something about those NES games — no saves, limited lives, and unforgiving levels — that makes every victory feel earned.

Watching them struggle, then improve, reminded me of the joy of classic gaming. These games teach patience, persistence, and timing — lessons that still matter today.

Why Classic NES Games Still Matter

Modern games are amazing, but the NES era had a special kind of magic. Simplicity, challenge, and unforgettable music made it feel like an adventure every time you pressed “Start.”

Whether it’s Super Mario Bros, Zelda, or Mega Man, these games shaped an entire generation of gamers — and it’s heartwarming to see a new generation discovering them.
