This game can be fun in the arcade because you know it’s just a silly, goofy, exaggerated experience. But overall—and especially on the Nintendo 64—this game is absolute trash. I wasn’t crazy about it back then, either. It was just a rented game, and I thought it was stupid. I remember thinking, “Gee, maybe this is how 3D racing games are supposed to be.” It was just terrible.
Why It Is Absolute Trash
There is genuinely nothing appealing about this game at all:
The Car Designs: I absolutely hate the way the cars look. For some reason, they look wide as hell. It doesn’t even look proportional to the actual cars.
The Physics: When you crash and get wrecked, the movement is not natural at all.
The Graphics: The visuals are terrible. This is basically the N64 equivalent of Ridge Racer, but worse.
The Gameplay: The stages suck, and the controls and mechanics are terrible. I get that you’re going across the country—hence the title—but the execution is just dumb.
Unbelievable Sequels
I honestly can’t believe they even made sequels like Cruis’n World and Cruis’n Exotica. Did people actually like this game enough for it to generate money? Did developers really look at this and say, “Hey, let’s make a sequel because this thing was a hit”? No, the game is just trash.
The whole thing kind of reminds me of the Fast and Furious arcade game, but I think Fast and Furious is way better than this.
The Verdict
I don’t have a single good thing to say about Cruis’n USA. This is one of the trashiest games that I’ve ever played. It sucks.
The only reason I’m even talking about it is because my goal is to touch on every single game that I’ve ever played. I’m not doing this to try and get long content out of it; I just want to put my authentic experience out there.
