My Reasons Why Ridge Racer Is The Worst Racing Game
A Disappointing First Impression of ridge racer
I think my brothers rented Ridge Racer with a friend back then. At the time, I knew the graphics were supposed to be a big deal, but the game didn’t really become the standard for me. It felt like there wasn’t much to it, though I could be wrong. Either way, somebody out there enjoys it.
Why It Fails to Stand the Test of Time
Somebody out there probably enjoys it. Personally, I don’t consider it a classic because the game didn’t age well at all. To me, it is one of those horrible ones that needs to get buried. The graphics suck, controlling is horrible, music and sound is trash. The lady is a like a paper animation and every disc needs to get scratched up.
Poor Vehicle Details and Unnatural Reactions
The game reminded me a lot of a Sega Saturn game, and I was never crazy about the graphics on the Saturn. There were no real details on the cars. I mean, at least they don’t look super wide like the cars in Cruis’n USA, but the way the vehicles respond to getting bumped is just weird and very unnatural.
The Gran Turismo Standard
I admit I hold racing games to a very high standard because of Gran Turismo. Even though Gran Turismo came out much later, it was a real simulator and an incredibly good game from the very first time I played it.
Flawed Physics and Sluggish Handling
Ridge Racer shows a decent amount of speed, but the physics are off. I’m usually pretty good at racing games, especially with enough practice, but there was nothing appealing about this one. When you turn, it doesn’t even feel like you are cornering properly; it’s like you turn a little bit but your car just keeps sliding straight. This game is just dry.
